Alumni Nominated for MLB 2020 Rawlings Gold Glove Award®

Babe Ruth League, Inc. is honored to have three alumni – Kolten Wong, Mookie Betts, and Cody Bellinger – as finalists for the 2020 Rawlings Gold Glove Award®. Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc. recently announced the finalists for the award, honoring the best individual fielding performances at each position in the majors.  Winners will be unveiled during a live broadcast on ESPN on November 3, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. ET.

“This season has certainly been unlike any other, and we’re thankful to continue the long-standing tradition of recognizing and honoring the best defensive players in the game,” said Mike Thompson, Chief Marketing Officer for Rawlings.  “This year’s class of Gold Glove finalists is a mix of established and first-time honorees which should make for an exciting reveal of the winners on November 3.”

A message from the Babe Ruth/ Cal Ripken League President;

Babe Ruth League, Inc has always been deeply committed to providing all of our participants with the very best educational sports experience possible in a safe and enjoyable environment.  We thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we navigate through these unparalleled times.

It is the goal of Babe Ruth League, Inc. to achieve a complete 2020 local league season so everyone can participate in the game they love. It remains our hope that once permission is granted by state and local health officials, we’ll return to our community fields and play as much baseball and softball as we can for the remainder of the 2020 year. We’ll be encouraging our commissioners to extend local league play into the summer and fall months in order to permit a full season for everyone.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, timelines are now flexible. Commissioners in your state will work with league presidents to discuss if and when district and state tournaments can take place.
Information regarding Regional Tournaments and World Series dates and locations will  be forthcoming as we explore other opportunities and formats in the next several weeks once our leagues get back up and running.

Until we meet again on the diamond, we ask you to focus on the guidelines set by local, state and federal governments to make sure we all do our part to ensure the health, well-being and safety of our players, families, volunteers and fans.

Be sure to stay connected with Babe Ruth League through our email, social media and websites for the most up to date information.

Sincerely,

Steven Tellefsen

As we continue our transition to SportsEngine for management of the Babe Ruth League safety program, including background screening and abuse prevention training, please refer to the instructions below for setting up the program within your organization.

Getting Started

  1. If you have not done so already, all league administrators need to create a SportsEngine account and complete their league administrator registration today. Once registered, administrators will have access to a list of local coaches that have completed background screenings and training.
  2. Next, make sure to publish the link to the coaches and volunteer safety registration on your league website, as soon as possible as the link is live as of  Monday, December 17.

Helpful Resources
Please refer to the list of frequently asked questions that provide additional details about the new screening process.  Need help with your SportsEngine account?  View the account guide.

Next Steps
Babe Ruth League will be emailing the link to all coaches and volunteers in the Pacific Northwest, Pacific Southwest, Southeast and Southwest this week to have them begin the process. Coaches and volunteers in the remaining regions will receive the link on January 3.

We ask for for your help in reinforcing with your coaches and volunteers that they are required to complete this safety program prior to being cleared to participate in the Spring season.

Best,

Babe Ruth League Headquarters
